Ulysse Djerba Thalasso & SPA ★★★★★

Compact and comfortable hotel, friendly staff.

The Beach and Pool Bar open at 10 and Close at 1800. For those either on Half Board or Inclusive this is not good value for money. They should open earlier and close later.

- Good food variety - Helpfull staff: they gave good advice on what to visit and arranged the taxi service - Lots of activities - Good swimming pools - ATM inside the hotel

- The majority of the staff didn't speak English - Low quality and variety of the all included drinks - Couldn't understand the room cleaning schedule - The sand from the hotel's beach had loads of algae: sometimes it was the worst in comparisson to the beaches around - No AC (or very low) in the dining area and corridors

The beach is nice (but some days there were not enough deckchairs for everybody). The bedroom was bright, clean, well furnished and the bed was very comfy.

A lot of things were not clear when we came here. The staff was in a rush and did not explain any rule regarding bracelet and did not show us facilities (eg: different pools, etc). It kind of felt like a factory sometimes. Before my arrival, I sent emails to ask for more information, nobody ever answered. The hotel is far from the rest of activities on the island, so you need to book a cab.

Spa facilities were excellent. The room had everything I needed.

Not much English spoken at reception, so check-in was a challenge. (I was trying to upgrade my room.) I kept being asked to see my bracelet by gate security, despite reception telling me I didn't need one.

I liked that there was a lot of restaurant/bar/cafés options being buffet or à la carte. Also there's activities and entertainment everyday. We really enjoyed the food specially breakfast.

At the spa after someone give us a tour we felt quite pressured to decide to pick something from the treatments and pay right away. We wanted to think about it because there was a lot of treatments and we wanted to take our time. We didn't feel relaxed nor confortable at all with this. The guy literally told us to go back to our room to get the credit card to pay for something we didn't decide to do. Why would we do that? If we went to the spa is to relax and have a good time, why complicate things? Just ask the number of the room and put on the bill like any other hotel does. Other point we realised was that everytime we asked something at the front desk they seemed quite overwhelmed like they never had that happened before. It was a simple late check we asked for.

The staff was super professional and friendly! the property was big and offers a vast choice of activities within the premises.

Disappointing

Our stay at the TUI Blue Ulysse exceeded our expectations. We were coming out of few unlucky days in Djerba and the few nights we spent at the Ulysse completely changed our mood in a positive way. The hotel is very modern and nice, although not so different from many all-inclusive hotel you can find in Djerba. We found the offer on Booking to be better than the desk rate proposed by the hotel in the end and it was indeed an incredible offer. There is a buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner and food is simply excellent, by far better than any restaurant you will find on the island. We were so relieved to have the choice of some fresh vegetables after days of eating only chips and cooked vegetables!! The excellent quality and diversity of food (particularly tunisian traditional dishes) is what made our stay unique and left us a good memory of Djerba. Food aside, there is a swimming pool big enough for all the hotel's customers. The beach is slightly hidden on a side but very quite. The only bad thing is that the bar is quite far, that's why we spent most of our times at the swimming pool. In terms of facilities the hotel has a lot of offers. We mainly used the gym that was ok, not greatly equipped but it did the job. Finally, at the beginning we were given a room on the first floor looking at the pool but we then managed to move to a much better room on top of the hall with full view on the pool and the sea. As an advice, avoid the first floor if you do not have a room with direct access to the pool.

Service was ok, but some of the employees were quite rude as were some of the guests. It happened more than once that we had to wait for long just to ask for a towel or an information and often some guest skipped the queue and the employees simply didn't care. There were however few exceptions, particularly at the night bar and at the luggage service employees were very friendly and polite. Another minus that prevents the hotel from obtaining a 10 is the quality of the alcohol included in the all inclusive package, simply disgusting. I understand that import alcohol cannot be included but other hotels have better wines and at least bottled beers in the all inclusive package.

On arrival we were upgraded to a swim-up room which was delightful. We had chosen this hotel to kick back and relax, and we weren't disappointed. Food was plentiful and lots of choice - not outstanding but good. Good standard of hotel for Tunisia. I think people need to be aware that 5* in Tunisia is not comparable to that of Europe and to lower their expectations a little when looking at the star rating - customer ratings always reflect the standard much better. I'd recommend paying a little extra for the swim-up room, if we hadn't had this we may not have had such an enjoyable stay as the main pool is quite busy indeed.

Not much to do in terms of activities - water sports or similar would be a nice extra touch, and little to do in the evening. Appreciate this is an adults only hotel for relaxing but was a little disappointed with the lack of leisure.

I expected more possibilities for leisures. Then I didn't like the fact that the sheets in my room weren't changed during the whole stay also the fact that the mini bar was not refilled,not even once.
